HEALTHY EATING

We all need to eat and drink to live and grow. We don't all eat the same things. Different people eat different diets. A vegetarian doesn't eat any meat. They eat other foods to replace the protein they are not having, like lentils and beans. This mean they are still healthy.

Why should you eat?
There are four main groups of food. You should try to eat something from each group every day.

Carbohydrates
Proteins
Fats
Vitamins and minerals

Welcome Back
Author: Francine Pucillo

Summer's over ... it was fun
Now it's time to get things done
Catch the bus and be on time
Standing straight in all those lines

Getting homework every day
Do it quick and then go play
Early nights and days so full
Following those school time rules

Do your best and you will see
Life will go by so quickly
For one day when you are grown
Your lessons written all in stone

You will know that in the end
These the best days you will spend
Sharing knowledge doing well
Your future has a lot to tell.

FLOATING AND SINKING

Children love playing with water, so activities involving water are always enjoyable. This time they worked with different objects like a tennis balls, ping pong balls, wooden bricks, marbles, and rocks to classify floating and non floating materials.

The Sad Stone
It’s easy to float
Said the blue rowing boat
As it bobbed on the mill pond one day
There’s nothing to that
Said an old cricket bat
As it bobbed and floated away.
And see so can I
Said a duck floating by
With a swish and a splash and a quack
But here I sit stuck
In the mud Mister Duck
Said the stone oh alas and alack.
And I can float too
Said a battered old shoe
If I’m careful and sitting up straight
And of course so can I
Said a swan floating by
With four cygnets behind, and his mate.
Deary me said the stone with a sort of a groan
The whole world can float past but me
The branch and the boat
And even the goat
And the iron ship out on the sea.
Oh stop all  that groan
Said the duck to the stone
Quickly picking him up in his bill
Sit there on my back
And away with a quack
They floated down to the mill.

WHAT PLANTS NEED TO GROW HEALTHY

Plants are living things. They grow, change and reproduce. They need air, soil, water, light, and space to grow.
Plants need soil. Water and minerals are taken from the soil through roots. Soil also provides support for the plant and an anchor for the roots to grow in.
Plants need sunlight in order to grow properly. They use light energy to change the materials - carbon dioxide and water into food substances (sugars). This process of food productions is called photosynthesis. Only in light can a green plant make food.
Plants need water. Plants use water to carry nutrients from the roots to their leaves and food from the leaves back down to the roots.
Plants must also have space in order to grow. If the space is small, the plants will be small and stunted. Big plants need big spaces for their roots and branches.
