Sports week

Sports Week is one the most exciting celebration at Saint George’s College. It lasted from Saturday 19th to Wednesday 23rd. Sports Week is a perfect time to get the whole school involved in a sporting fun day and is a fantastic reason for students to engage and experience sports like never before. Students had the chance to compete in Athletism, handball, football, basket, and much more.

Religious Celebrations

HANUKKAH
Hanukkah is a special time for children. Gifts and Hanukkah money are exchanged. Some families give a small present on each of the eight nights of Hanukkah. Hanukkah is a great time for eating delicious foods. Some dishes have special significance, such as latkes (a kind of potato fritter), pancakes and doughnuts. This is because they are fried in oil and so Jewish people remember the miracle of the oil lasting eight days in the temple.
There are two important things to learn:

 HOW TO LIGHT THE MENORAH

HOW TO PLAY WITH THE DREIDEL

Assembly October 21st

On October 21st Grade 2 OTTERS was in charge of the assembly. One of the students started with this beautiful prayer

Dear Lord, We thank you for having a meal to eat every day, for having a nice house, a fantastic family and the opportunity to study at Saint George’s College. Please protect our families and teachers. Please help us to be better kids every day and to play fair with enthusiasm respecting each other as always.  Amen.

Then, they continued talking about the Sport Week and "Día de la Canción Criolla", remembering the most representative peruvian creole singers such as Felipe Pinglo Alva, Isabel "Chabuca" Granda, Mario Cavagnaro, Augusto Polo Campos, Lucha Reyes, El Cholo Berrocal, Luis Abanto Morales, Arturo "Zambo" Cavero, Los Morochucos y Los Embajadores Criollos.
Congratulations my dear OtterS you did a wonderful presentation.

SECOND FIELD TRIP

Agraria University 2 on PhotoPeach
First Field Trip
Kids were excited for this field trip. They enjoyed it a lot. They had fun and spent a great day at Agraria University reinforcing the themes they learned in Science. Themes like parts of the plants and their needs. The guides, students of the university, were really good at explaining every topic and solving kids doubts.
Plants are living things. They grow, change and reproduce. They need air, soil, water, light, and space to grow. Plants need soil. Water and minerals are taken from the soil through roots. Soil also provides support for the plant and an anchor for the roots to grow in. Plants need sunlight in order to grow properly. They use light energy to change the materials - carbon dioxide and water into food substances (sugars). This process of food productions is called photosynthesis. Only in light can a green plant make food. Plants need water. Plants use water to carry nutrients from the roots to their leaves and food from the leaves back down to the roots. Plants must also have space in order to grow. If the space is small, the plants will be small and stunted. Big plants need big spaces for their roots and branches.

FATHER'S DAY

Father’s Day comes once a year on the third Sunday of June. Father’s Day means a great many things to a great many people. But most of us will agree that Father’s Day means the day in which you celebrate your Dad’s existence. Father’s Day is the day you bring your Dad a little gift. It’s the day we all say “Thank you for being there, Dad! Thanks for everything you did, and for just being you!” Your Dad is sure to be very glad that you care enough about him to get him anything at all!
Kids in grade two OTTERS dedicated some time to learn the poem above and to prepare very nice cards.  They were excited and decorated with lot of emotion.

Cobbler, cobbler mend my shoe - Nursery Rhyme

SONGS

During this term kids have learnt some songs to improve their fluency and pronunciation. It surprised me how fast they could learn the songs. They showed their creativity adding some movements to have fun while singing.

Mother's day

Happy Mother's Day on PhotoPeach

Many people remember their mothers and mother figures on Mother’s Day. Mother figures may include stepmothers, relatives, mothers-in-law, or a family friend. There are many different ways to celebrate Mother’s Day. They may include giving cards, flowers, or sweets. Maybe going out to have a family breakfast, lunch, or at home. Personal phone calls, particularly from children who live away from their mothers.
At school we also motivated kids to celebrate their mums. Telling them a poem or writing a note, behaving well, and loving them with all their heart. Children elaborated a beautiful card to give their mums on Mother’s Day.
